Earth Sciences Undergrad Joshua Townsend receives grant from UROP

Joshua Townsend just received a $1000 grant from the IUPUI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) for his proposal titled “Geochemistry and Geochronology of Glacial Till form Mt. Howe, East Antarctica”.  In 2007, Joshua's advisor, Associate Professor Kathy Licht, along with a team of scientists including recent graduate Kate Kramer (M.S. 2008) and IUPUI alum Eric Hiatt (B.S. 1988) collected the samples Josh will be working on during a successful Antarctic field season.  The aim of the project is to better understand Antarctica's sub-glacial geology while using the composition of glacial till to trace ice flow paths during the last ice age.
