What will surely become an annual event just happened for the second time. The 'Indiana Gathering of Geologists and Awards Barbecue' occurred Saturday, October 2 at Bryant Creek Lake Shelter, in Morgan-Monroe State Forest. The gathering was presented by Professional Geologists of Indiana, Indiana Geologists, Indiana-Kentucky Geological Society, and the Indiana Geological Survey. An attempt was made to invite very geologist in the State (and families), including professors, students, consultants, industry geologists and government employees. If you did not know about the event and would like more information please email PGI. A similar event will be held in early fall of 2000. This year a simple family picnic was planned where people could meet families and have relaxing conversations. The location was simple but impressive, very conducive to a kicked-back gathering. Barbecue was a misnomer this year, hamburgers, brats, and hotdogs were provided as entrées for a pitch-in meal. Over seventy geologists and family members enjoyed the relaxing socializing time. The meal was served around 12:30 PM followed by awards around 2:00. At 4:00 a nature hike took participants through the tree identification trail at the Forrest.
