| On September
the 22, 2001 the Professional Geologists of Indiana (PGI) and Ball State University hosted
a field trip in Central Indiana. Professional geologists, students, and
faculty attended the second annual all-university field trip. This years one day trip centered around Mississinewa Lake near Peru, Indiana
with stops at Irving Materials Inc.'s Pipe Creek Jr. quarry in the morning and an
afternoon presentation focusing on the USACE expertise in dealing with complex issues
related to dams such as the dam at Mississinewa Lake.

PGI wishes to
thank all those who attended for making this a truly enjoyable experience with special
recognition to the organizers, Dr. Jeff Grigsby from Ball State and PGI Vice President
Roger Anderson from SECOR. Additional thanks are extended to Dr. Jack Sunderman and
IMI Geologist Jon Havens for the quarry portion of the trip and to the Army Corps of
Engineers Geologists Steve Hornbeck and Timothy Flaherty for a truly informative and
interesting series of presentations including a site visit discussing earthen dam repair.
