 The Petrology
Laboratory is directed by Andrew Barth.Dr. Barth's principal research is focused on the evolution of the western margin of North America during the last 3 billion years. Current projects include studies of the origin of continental crust, deformation within ancient island-arc systems in southern California and western Arizona, and the role of faulting in the evolution of the continental margin. These projects involve field mapping and detailed geochemical, isotopic, and mineralogic analyses of rocks to understand environmental conditions of crystallization and the processes of chemical evolution. |
