Basalt of Malapai Hill: A dark extrusive igneous rock, with few visible crystals. The rust red coating

is indicative of the high iron content of this rock. A cluster of green crystals at the top of this specimen

is a xenolith, a foreign rock fragment caught up in the magma as it rose. Xenoliths are characteristic

of the basalts of Malapai Hill and Lost Horse.
