Research Program Procedures

Dr. Filippelli’s research focuses on biogeochemical cycling in the environment and the connections between geochemistry and the geologic record of climate change. He has worked extensively on the chemistry and geologic history of nutrient cycling in the ocean. Current research has involved linking global climate models with paleogeologic and paleolithologic maps in order to determine continental weathering rates during intervals of the Cenozoic, determining the effects of glacial cycles on weathering rates and styles in the mid-Continent, and determining phosphorus and metal geochemistry in the equatorial Pacific, South Ocean, and continental margins.
