Special Use Instructions

BLL Generators

SL037

Special Use Instructions:

lfr-x95.JPG (14150 bytes)The LaserGraphics LFR-X95 is a slide printer, requiring film to be installed prior to each use.

Please use Kodak Ektachrome Ellite 100 (now ElliteChrome) speed film. (Other film types are available but this is the standard, other speeds may effect picture quality, 100 is recommended.)

To use the LaserGraphics LFR-X95 slide printer follow these steps in order:

  • Turn on the LaserGraphics LFR-X95 at the switch in the back-left corner.
  • Load film, do not tuck in the sprocket, the film will load automatically. The devices will wind out all film to count the number of available exposures. Read display to confirm film loading.
  • Allow the unit 2-3 minutes to warm up.  Watch the display and the front lights, when ready the grean LED will glow steady.

Now turn your attention to the Graphix #2 machine.  It is recommended that you restart the machine prior to printing, this will eliminate any possible problems associated with the previous users.  Before using the slide printer the following two applications must be started. From the Start Menu go to Programs:

  • Utilities / WinRascol RIP / Dev Manager-LFR-X 95
  • Utilities / WinRascol RIP / Print Manager

Copy the item to be printed (IE. your powerpoint file) to the Graphix #2 machine, this will eliminate any possible network problems.

Now Open the application and file to be printed.  (IE. PowerPoint)

  1. Select Print from the File Menu
  2. Select the LFR-X 95 from the Print Menu
  3. Select Properties for the LFR-X 95
  4. Select the appropriate file type (Kodak Ektachrome Ellite 100)
  5. Select the appropriate slide orientation, Landscape or Portrait
  6. Select Advanced, change the Scaling to 90% to reduce problems associated with plastic mounts
  7. Note:  Do not select the scale to fit option.
  8. Note:  Do not use the collate function when printing multiple copies.
  9. Press print.

It takes approximately 1 minute to expose each slide.

When completed delete your file from Graphix #2 to save space.

It is recommended that you print directly from the Graphix2 machine. However this is not always practical, as you may need an applications that is not installed on the Graphix2 machine. If you must print from a special application, you will need to install the BLL generator on the machine with the special application.

PC installation: Select the following link to the driver:  LFR_X.zip.  Save this file to your install directory and unzip it. Now goto your "Start" button, select "Settings", then "Printers". Click on "Add Printer", select "local" then when prompted for the driver press "Have Disk" and go to where you have stored the unzipped files (look for the LFR-X folder). Answer the questions as prompted, using Save to File when promoted for port information.

This driver will generate files with the extension ".bll". After generating these files copy them to the LFR-X machine in the special "public" folder.

Make sure you go to printer setup when generating these files, insuring the orientation, film type, and scaling are set correctly on your machine.  As stated above.

Mac users may obtain a disk from the Graphix Lab to generate BLL files, contact bhall@iupui.edu.
